Family Photographer

Thank-you for selecting TopHatz Photography as your Family Photographer

Children and family groups are really fun for me as a family photographer because all rules are usually thrown out the window during these sessions.  There are no set poses, number of photos taken, or limits on time.  As a family photographer I know the best pictures are accomplished when everyone is relaxed and having fun.  This is why during children’s photography sessions I make sure that ample time is set aside to get the photos that showcase your child and their uniqueness.  It usually takes children a little time to warm up to a new person, especially one who is carting around a camera with a big lens attached.  I like to  spend a few minutes interacting with the child to develop level of comfort that will allow for their personalities to shine which will result in amazing photos.  Group shots can be more challenging for a family photographer.  When multiple people are being photographed, attention to detail is crucial.  Many times multiple shots of the same pose or arrangement is necessary due to movement, blinking or eyes closed, or simply an unflattering expression.   It takes time to compose a beautiful family portrait, and this is always done without watching the clock.  Your experience with TopHatz Photography will be memorable and our hope is that we become your family photographer of choice.  Photos are treasured heirlooms and passed down through generations.  When you look at these family pictures years from now, you will be reminded of the relationships and importance of family.   We provide exceptional customer service at an affordable price.  We’ve learned over the years what makes our clients happy, and we’ve built our business around it.  Take time to view our Family Portrait Gallery to see examples.  We offer various print items including large canvas prints and gallery wraps, metal prints, coffee table books, albums, and holiday and greeting cards for your family pictures.  Please contact us for design and pricing information.

What to Wear

Good choices in clothing is one of the key elements of a great photo session! For group sessions, clothing should be coordinated. Clothing should be simple and timeless. Favorites are jeans, khaki colored pants, white, black or neutral colored shirts, sundresses, gowns, hats and bare feet. (Large, busy prints, checkered patterns & geometric designs don’t photograph well). I’ll be checking in with you to chat about clothing choices. It’s a great idea to plan the outfits 2 weeks before the session. Lay them out on a bed, step back and take a look. Once you’re happy with your choices, make sure they are clean and wrinkle-free, then set them aside for your session. Don’t forget about shoes and the most overlooked item… the socks! Yes, the socks are important…(the color). This will lower your stress level on session day!  Clients are encouraged to include their own props. Examples are: A musical instrument, sports equipment, a book and reading glasses or a family pet.

What to Expect

Please feel at ease at your session. If pressured to “smile”, natural expressions may be lost.  Many of the great images that I capture are the “in-between” shots, when the subject relaxes & smiles.  Photo sessions are work for both subject and photographer but don’t worry, be yourself and don’t try too hard!  Relax, it’s your day!

Once I’ve received your deposit payment, I will start planning your session. I will contact you to go over the details of your session. I will also keep an eye on the weather forecast and contact you (the day of or day before your session) if I feel the session may need to be moved earlier or later in the day or re-scheduled.  I will then meet for your photography session, have loads of fun and capture great images.  *Additional fees may be incurred in the event a client re-schedules with less than 24 hours notice.

A week or so after your session I will contact you to schedule your in person viewing appointment you will preview the images and choose your favorites.  The appointment generally takes between one to two hours, giving us time to go over everything so that you get the images edited the way you want them.  Once I have made final edits to the images we will schedule a time to meet and view your images to give your final approval.  Your customized photos and any additional products you’ve ordered. will be packaged and delivered  around 7-10 days after your order is placed.
